The natives of  North Borneo Sabah East Malaysia  Harvest Festival is normally celebrated in the month of May. 30 & 31 May are public holidays (since 1963) for the state of North Borneo Sabah. This provision lets everyone celebrate the festival.

In the early part of Natives commune life Harvest Festival was celebrated in villages just after the conclusion of harvesting padi (hill or lowland padi) , that is the month of January to May. Originally Natives Harvest Festival celebration is about eating and jars of home brewed alcohol.

Merry making also includes dances, folklore recital, as well as rendition of native songs. When night comes some natives women would listen to medium speak to their goddess. Speaking to goddess usually starts from midnight and ends at dawn. It is done in total darkness and in sitting posture on the floor, both legs are held together and stretched straight in front. The lead medium will go into trance with both feet hitting the floor rapidly and loudly. The medium speaks or rather sound like singing with dynamics, monotonous rhythm, melody and phrasing of course.

It will take time for the lead medium to be possessed by their goddess spirit. Attendees can then pose all sorts of questions or suggestion for the medium to seek answers.

Women cover their head with black cloths while listening to the medium recites lengthy verses in language that is unintelligible to laymen natives. For example to eat food (rice) is spoken as ‘mo-gin-di-pur’. The topic of recital can be a general story, prediction of oncoming events (good or bad harvest) or revelation about bad events that happened in the past.. Men are not encouraged to attend this event anyway.
